WWE’s Bayley Reveals the True Extent of Her 2021 Injury
In 2022, the inception of Damage CTRL brought together Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY, all facing career setbacks. While Kai returned to WWE and SKY debuted on the main roster, Bayley was recovering from a significant knee injury sustained in 2021. During an interview on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” the former WWE Women’s Champion disclosed that her injury went beyond an ACL tear, hinting at undisclosed details.
Bayley shared, “It was a bigger injury than anybody knows. There’s a few people that are aware of it, and obviously the office and stuff, but that’s the reason. It wasn’t just an ACL thing, it was a bigger injury, and that’s the reason why it kept me out longer.” Despite ongoing discomfort hindering activities like leg curls and running, Bayley remained determined to make a comeback.
The Origin of Damage CTRL and Bayley’s Vision
Upon her return, Bayley conceived Damage CTRL as a means to seamlessly reintegrate into WWE. She envisioned a five-woman group to support her during her recovery, only to later betray them. While considering various candidates, including Toni Storm, Bayley, Kai, and SKY initially filmed with Raquel Rodriquez and Alba Fyre before narrowing the stable down to three members. Bayley’s foresight in identifying the current Women’s World Champion, IYO SKY, as the group’s champion proved to be accurate.
“In my mind [there were] two tag teams,” Bayley reflected on the initial five-woman concept, “and then IYO was my champion.”
Closing Thoughts
Bayley’s candid revelations shed light on the challenges she faced during her injury recovery and the creative process behind Damage CTRL. Her resilience and strategic thinking have not only shaped her wrestling journey but also influenced the trajectory of her fellow wrestlers within the WWE landscape.
