Shelton Benjamin Discloses How He Received a Six-Figure Raise in WWE Without Requesting It
Shelton Benjamin recently shared how former WWE CEO Vince McMahon granted him a substantial salary increase without him having to ask for it.
The incident took place in 2020 during the Men’s Royal Rumble match, where Brock Lesnar made an impressive entrance at number one. Lesnar dominated the match by eliminating a record-breaking 13 competitors before eventually being eliminated.
Amid Lesnar’s dominance, he had an interaction with his friend Shelton Benjamin. The two exchanged handshakes, hugs, and high-fives in the ring before Lesnar unexpectedly attacked Benjamin with a German Suplex and threw him over the top rope.
Despite the surprising turn of events, Vince McMahon was impressed by the moment and decided to reward Shelton Benjamin with a significant pay raise. Benjamin recently discussed the incident on Maven Huffman’s YouTube channel, revealing that Lesnar came up with the idea for the betrayal on the spot.
Benjamin expressed his initial reluctance about the situation, feeling that it made him look foolish. However, he was surprised by the positive reaction from fans. He also mentioned that he wished they had been given more creative freedom to explore different possibilities during the match.
The silver lining for Benjamin was that he had recently signed a new contract with WWE. McMahon, who revisited the Royal Rumble match due to the memorable moment, was so pleased with the spot that he instructed talent relations to offer Benjamin a six-figure raise as a token of appreciation.
