WWE-AAA Deal Progress Update
Two weeks have passed since the wrestling community was taken aback by WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Despite this significant development, numerous uncertainties linger. The primary details disclosed about the agreement are the upcoming “NXT” and AAA collaboration at Worlds Collide in Los Angeles on June 7, along with WWE’s anticipated involvement in AAA TripleMania Regia in Monterrey on June 15.
Recent revelations emerged when AAA President Dorian Roldan addressed the public about the transaction. During a segment on “Wrestling Observer Radio” on Thursday morning, Dave Meltzer summarized Roldan’s statements. Roldan affirmed that he would retain his position as AAA President, while his mother, Marisela Pena Roldan, would continue as the AAA director. Notably, Roldan disclosed that the finalization of the AAA-WWE deal is slated for later this year, prompting Meltzer to speculate on the timing of the announcement.
Meltzer suggested that the sudden announcement of the deal, coinciding with the Monterrey event and the Inglewood show, may have been accelerated due to AEW’s premature disclosure of the Arena Mexico run before the deal’s completion. Additionally, Meltzer confirmed that Nick Khan would play a role in assisting AAA with media rights negotiations. Furthermore, AAA is optimistic about the potential participation of WWE stars in significant events, such as Penta, Fenix, Andrade, Dominik Mysterio, and El Grande Americano, although their appearances are yet to be confirmed. Meltzer also highlighted WWE’s strategic objective behind this acquisition.
