Saraya’s Rejection of AEW Storyline Pitch
Saraya, also known as Paige, transitioned from WWE to AEW in 2022, debuting at Grand Slam on 21 September 2022. As a one-time Women’s World Champion in Tony Khan’s promotion, she recently discussed her decision to decline a romantic storyline pitch with Matt Menard, known as “Daddy Magic.”
In a recent appearance on the Rulebreakers podcast, Saraya revealed her reasons for rejecting the storyline. Despite being in a relationship with Ronnie Radke, lead singer of ‘Falling in Reverse,’ she felt uncomfortable with the idea of portraying a romantic angle on-screen. She explained, «Daddy Magic, they wanted me to do a love storyline with him, and I’ve managed to go on my whole career without doing a love storyline, and I wasn’t gonna start. They were like, ‘No, all he’s gonna do is kiss you.’ I had a boyfriend at the time, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do it, you guys. I just can’t do it.’ So I turned down that. There’s not really anything storyline-wise else I’ve turned down.»
Despite declining the storyline, Saraya acknowledged her respect for Daddy Magic but stood firm in her decision. This incident marked a rare instance where she faced such a request in her wrestling career.
Cool Hand Ang’s Involvement and Real-Life Romance
While Saraya opted out of the Daddy Magic storyline, her tag partner, Cool Hand Ang, engaged in an on-screen romantic angle with Saraya’s stable partner, Ruby Soho. This scripted romance eventually blossomed into a real-life marriage, and the couple now shares a daughter.
Saraya’s Thoughts on In-Ring Return
In an interview with Joe Vulpis of the Lightweights Podcast, Saraya expressed her thoughts on a potential return to the ring. She acknowledged the current landscape of wrestling, stating, «Yeah. I mean, I feel like at this age and time, there isn’t really a spot for me right now. I feel like everybody’s got their own thing. Eventually…I love wrestling, I will be back at some point. But right now, it’s good. They don’t need me. They don’t need me.»
In conclusion, Saraya’s decision to reject the AEW storyline pitch sheds light on the complexities of balancing personal relationships with professional commitments in the world of wrestling.
